There is a wide range of ready-to-paint ceramic items for kids and adults to choose from, and a great selection of tools and paint colours are provided. Your unique, hand-painted items will be fired and glazed, ready for collecting in three weeks. Kids can have fun running around in the garden playground area, and there is delicious breakfast or lunchtime fare to be enjoyed at the arts and craft centre restaurant while you paint.

World of Birds is the largest bird park in Africa, housing over 3 000 birds (and small animals) in walk-through aviaries that allowing visitors to get up close to over 400 bird species. There is a playground and picnic area at the Flamingo Terrace – right next to the flamingos – or you could grab a snack at The Robin’s Nest.

Open for a once-off pony ride or ongoing lessons, The Riding Centre on Hout Bay Main Road offers a range of equestrian activities for children of all ages. The facilities include a barn-type stable block with plenty of paddocks and two jumping arenas. There is a small cross country and easy access to outrides. The playground is open to visitors who are welcome to pop in for a light meal or coffee at The Stable Shop to meet Riley the pig, Lola the goat, the chickens and bunnies.

Acrobranch Constantia features several action packed aerial obstacle courses, with options that are appropriate for children from as young as three years old right up to agile adults, and entail navigating cargo nets, zip lines, barrels and elevated platforms. Kids between the ages of 3 – 6 will have great fun on the Acro-twigs course which is closely monitored by regulated safety guides while they get to take tree-climbing to a whole new level and exercise their coordination and planning in the process.

Gary’s Surf School – just a scenic 30-minute drive from Hout Bay Manor – is based on the beachfront in Muizenberg and is the oldest surf school in the country. Gary’s excellent coaches offer level 1 beginner surf lessons that will have your kids standing on a surfboard from their first lesson and loving every second of it. Wetsuits and surfboards can be hired at Gary’s surf shop premises.

The Bike Park at Constantia Uitsig is open to cyclists of all ages and levels of skill, and features a variety of tracks stretching 2.8km. A selection of bikes are available for hire from R50 – R120 per hour, along with protection gear (including knee pads, elbow pads and helmets). The Bike Park has four very experienced riders that offer skills coaching for all ages, focused on basic principals which encourage novice riders to get comfortable on a bike ,and ultimately to increase their speed safely and have lots of fun.
